How to Install HDPE Pipe Fittings

Butt Fusion Installation

  1. Cut Pipes: Use a plastic pipe cutter for clean, square ends.
  2. Face the Ends: Remove oxidation layers with a planing tool.
  3. Heat the Pipes: Clamp pipes in a butt fusion machine and heat to 210–230°C (410–446°F).
  4. Fuse the Pipes: Press heated ends together for 5–10 seconds.
  5. Cool: Allow the joint to cool without movement.

Electrofusion Installation

  1. Clean Pipes: Remove dirt and moisture from pipe ends.
  2. Insert Fitting: Slide the electrofusion coupling onto the pipe.
  3. Clamp: Secure the fitting in place.
  4. Connect Welder: Attach leads to the fitting’s terminals.
  5. Activate: Run the welder for the specified time (usually 2–5 minutes).

Mechanical Fitting Installation

  1. Cut and Deburr Pipes: Ensure smooth ends.
  2. Slide Compression Ring: Place onto the pipe.
  3. Tighten Nut: Hand-tighten, then use a wrench for an additional ¼ turn.
